WHERE THE LAKE NAMED FINALIST for FOREWORD AWARDS

March 14, 2009

Hello Dear Readers,

I'm happy to share the good news with you that Where the Lake Becomes the river has been selected as a finalist for ForeWord Magazine's Book of the Year Award, in the "General Fiction" category. The magazine's website says:

"More than 1,400 books were entered in 61 categories...narrowed to 668 finalists from 376 publishers. These books represent some of the best work coming from today's independent press community. The winners will be determined by a panel of librarians and booksellers, selected from our readership. Gold, Silver, and Bronze winners, as well as Editor's Choice Prizes for Fiction and Nonfiction will be announced at a special program at BookExpo America at the Javits Center in New York City on May 29. The winners of the two Editor's Choice Prizes will be awarded $1,500 each. ForeWord's Book of the Year Awards program was designed to discover distinctive books across a number of genres."

It's an honor to be nominated for these awards, and even more so for the book to be chosen as a finalist.
I love libraries, which have always been a place of wonder and refuge for me, a portal to the universe. I probably should have become a librarian myself--not sure why I didn't think of it! I'm happy that the ForeWord awards bring independent/small-press publications to the attention of thousands of librarians -- as well as to many publishers, editors and agents. Keep your fingers and toes crossed.

Meanwhile, please consider posting a brief review of WHERE THE LAKE BECOMES THE RIVER on Amazon or Barnes and Noble online, since such reviews are a main reason that potential readers are drawn to a new book.

Thanks!

All the best,
Kate
